Well as most of you might have guessed, I am currently doing my summer internship and that explains the office bit also. I am at Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Mumbai doing a swell project on Entry Strategy for South Africa. The name sure sounds fancy right? And I am pleased to announce that the project is just as fancy with a trip to South Africa thrown in for good measure. I was really pleased at getting in Glenmark because it included a project in Mumbai, the city which I refuse to acknowledge as anything less than the best in the world and also that it included an office at Worli Sea Face with a view of the sea from the office. I was disappointed on that front however. The only time I got a view from the office of the vast sea spread below was when I was busy faxing some documents from this swanky room right next to the MD's room and caught this glare off the sea right out of the window. But then again that does not take away anything from the summer internship. Its a great oppurtunity to learn a lot of the corporate world and also clear out some management fundas. My trip to South Africa will mostly happen sometime next week probably the 30th of June and the papers for the visa are almost done except for the hotel reservations. Hopefully things will sort out by next week and the next entry might be out of Africa. Out of Africa is supposed to be a great movie so I have heard. In fact, I ran into a really old and faded copy of the book the other day when I was looking at books at Churchgate (The cheap pirated variety) though this one seemed more like the old discarded variety which came out of somebody's closet. Its about a big game hunter (Robert Redford) and some Danish female who falls for him (played by Meryl Streep). Its supposed to be a very descriptive book, a poetic narrative is what you would call it. Enough of flowerydescriptions. I just completed 2001 - A space Odyssey by Arthur C Clarke. Brilliant story thought it falters a bit towards the end. But the conceptualization is just brilliant. Somehow I thought that I would neverlike Science Fiction and have mad a conscious effort to avoid sci fi greats like Asimov and the likes, but the other day I was searching on google for this interesting piece of trivia I picked up somewhere about the shortest sci fi story ever written. It was written by Asimov and is a really clever piece on how man kind tried to solve the greatest computing problem plauging them when they knew that it would perhaps be unsolvable. Won't give out the whole story coz the last bit is the best. Have downloaded quite a large number of e books and will try to complete them as and when possible Till then its back to working around the office, talking to different people, doing menial things, googling a lot for information on the South African pharmaceutical markets and in addtion frequent visits to travel and tourism sites for additional information onthe South Africa that I would like to see besides the insides of pharma company offices, distributors and retailers and of course boring government officials. No more promises to write as and when I can, but actually writing as and when I can (Mom always said that I was a lazy bum) |
| Parikshit May 18, 2005 07:54 AM PDT Read the Foundation series by Asimov. You will find a whole new universe created from the mind of a single man. Also, tell me which short story you were talking about. If you are fond of sci-fi cum adventure read Jack Mcdevitt's Deep Six. I am a great sci fi buff... could suggest all sorts of novels to you. Personally, I found 2001 a bit of a let down too. All right ... enough of my babbling... tc. | ||
